Slimbridge U18s 5-3 Cirencester Town U18s
Thursday 23rd April 2026
A dominant performance from The Under 18s side saw them demolish Cirencester Town Under 18s last night and lift the HFA Giantkillers Cup. A Hat Trick from James Tainton, with goals from Theo Browne and Alfie Mann saw the Swans lift the trophy to jubilant scenes on and off the pitch at the HFA headquarters in Hereford.

Two very late goals when the game was done for Ciren made the result look closer than it was in reality, and the Young Swans now have the task of finishing their season by clinching the League next week to secure a memorable double.

With the first team celebrating their promotion on Saturday, it hasn't been a bad few days for everyone connected with the club.

Cirencester possible had the better of the very early encounters, but it was not to last - with nine minutes on the clock, Alfie Mann broke onto a diagonal ball, and was brought down by his defender as he entered the Cirencester box. James Tainton coolly dispatched the resulting penalty to put the Swans ahead.

Slimbridge were definitely having the better of the play, but it took until the half hour mark for the second to come, when Mann's cross was neatly converted by Tainton to double their lead.

Five minutes later, a lovely dummy by Mann saw the ball reach Theo Browne, who rounded the keeper and slid the ball home to leave Slimbridge in complete control at the break.

On 52 minutes, it was four - Tainton went on a mazy run and drilled the ball home to complete his hat trick and effectively kill the game off.

A penalty for Cirencester reduced the deficit on 58 minutes, but with 66 minutes on the clock, Alfie Mann got the goal his display had deserved to restore the four goal advantage.

As the game tipped into stoppage time, two goals for Ciren gave the scoreline a more respectable look, but in reality it was a stunning performance from the Young Swans who thoroughly deserved their win.

On Monday next week (27th, 7.30 pm), they travel to Longelevens, where a point will see them clinch the League Title. The following night (28th, 7.30pm), they return to Thornhill Park to host Cirencester Town in what it is hoped will be a double title celebration with the First Team at the end of an incredibly successful season for the football club.
