Tuffley Rovers 2-3 Slimbridge
Monday 6th April 2026
Slimbridge secured their promotion to the Southern League via the Hellenic League title for the first time in 19 years this afternoon at Glevum Park.

After Harley Mustoe had put the hosts ahead only 22 seconds in, Charlie Hitching levelled things up for the Swans. Darnell Chambers put Tuffley back into the lead at the break, but ten minutes into the second half, Alex Bell pulled things back level. On 82 minutes, Jacob Rodgers slotted home the goal that eventually ended up securing the title, but there was an excruciating 11 minute delay after the final whistle while the team huddled on the pitch awaiting Droitwich Spas's defeat to be confirmed, handing the title to the Swans, and sparking wild celebrations both on and off the pitch.

The Swans made the worst possible start to the game when Tuffley's first attack saw them leave Harley Mustoe free in the box, and he slotted home with just 22 seconds on the clock.

Jack Smith and Joe Shutt combined to see Shutt's long range effort just wide with four minutes on the clock, but as the clock hit ten, Slimbridge were level.

A Charlie Mathews Free Kick into the Tuffley Box was bundled in by Charlie Hitchings to level things up.

Things when from bad to worse for the visitors when they then lost Kian Kang to a hamstring injury on 19 minutes, with Joe Stokes replacing him.

Two minutes later, another Mathews corner saw Jack W Smith just off target with his header, before Tuffley regained their lead on 25 minutes.

Karnell Chambers chased a through ball and beat Swans' Keeper Alex Hammond to restore the hosts' lead.

On 37 minutes, Slimbridge were dealt another injury blow - Sam Blackie's tribulations with his dislocated shoulder meaning he had to make way for Ryan Ponting.

Following the break, yet another injury saw Shiyak Sutherland forced off to be replaced by Olly Sully as Slimbridge were forced into their third reorganisation of the game.

To their credit though, they started to dominate the game and on 55 minutes, Jack Smith and Jack W Smith combined to cause a scramble in the Tuffley box, and Alex Bell was on hand to drill the ball home and level things up.

Five minutes later, Bell's power drive was cleared off the Tuffley line, and ten minutes later, Owen Giles picked up a yellow card for a challenge.

Slimbridge were still creating the better chances, with Jack W Smith and Rodgers going close.

On 82 minutes, Slimbridge took the lead for the first time, when Rodgers was on hand to sweep the ball home after another scramble in the Tuffley box.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Giles picked up a second yellow card but it was way too late to affect the outcome.

Following the final whistle, it was all down to confirmation that Hereford Pegasus had beaten Droitwich Spa to confirm the Swans had claimed the title.

They now have two last League games - at Roman Glass St. George on Saturday (11th April, 3.00), before they return to Thornhill Park for their final game to host Longlevens (18th April, 3.00pm) in what is sure to be a riotous celebration of the season.
