Roman Glass St. George 5-1 Slimbridge
Slimbridge slumped to defeat at GFA HQ to second placed Roman Glass St George on the plastic pitch at Almondsbury. Glass thoroughly deserved their victory but the talking points after game for the away fans were decisions by Referee Robert Herett, who, for his second game running refereeing The Swans, reduced the side to nine men via a sin bin and then a subsequent sending off during the sin bin period.
Glass made a fast start and in the first minute, Laurent Wilson's header from a corner came back off the Slimbridge post, but the offside flag had already been raised.
In the ninth minute though, the home side were ahead - a cross into the Slimbridge box cannoned off Josh Barclay's arm, and ex-Bristol Rovers Man Chris Lines converted the resulting penalty.
Joe McKayle had the best of the early chances for Slimbridge, with his effort on 16 minutes producing a good save from Glass Keeper James Walker.
Four minutes later it was two for the home side as Jennison Williams and Laurent Wilson broke, and despite an initial good stop from Swans Keeper Travis Wood, Williams followed up to record the second for the hosts.
Slimbridge began to press and after McKayle had a good effort blocked, Jack Smith had two good efforts blocked before a foul on Jacob Rodgers which was given the other way saw Smith Sin Binned for a comment to the Referee on 30 minutes.
On 32 minutes, Nickell Plummer appeared to dive over Woods challenge in the Slimbridge box, but the referee decided that neither a penalty or a yellow card for a dive was appropriate.
The teams exchanged efforts before the break - Smith brought another save from Walker, and Williams was off target, leaving the two goal deficit at the break.
Five minutes into the second half, the game was effectively over as Ward converted a free kick into the Slimbridge box, but more controversy was to come as a foul by Goalkeeper Walker on McKayle was not given, resulting in Rhys Sarson receiving another Sin Bin from the Referee for something said to the official.
While Sarson was off, goals from Wilson and Connor Hartley put the game well and truly to bed, the second goal resulting in a red card for Nathan Dennis as he protested another decision that was not given.
Theo Clayson reduced the deficit on 71 minutes, but it was an afternoon to forget for The Swans.
The game scheduled for next Saturday at home to Thornbury Town has been postponed by the League, and Slimbridge will instead host Longlevens on Friday Night (7.45pm) at Thornhill Park in a League fixture.
