Slimbridge defeated Tuffley Rovers 2-1 this evening at Thornhill Park, in what turned out to be the latest entertaining instalment of this great local rivalry.
After losing 3-0 early on in the season with a disappointing display at Glevum Park, Slimbridge came out on top with goals from Jack Smith and Jack Watts, although Tyrel Roberts' second half reply for the visitors made the result a little closer than the hosts would have liked.
The first real chance of the game came on nine minutes, when Karnell Chambers' cross found Kieran Alder, but he couldn't get a good connection with the goal gaping in front of him.
Four minutes later, Slimbridge were denied when Jack Smith's effort looped over Tuffley Keeper Luke Merchand but superb back pedalling from Ellis Clifford saw him clear the goal bound effort off the line and to safety.
The best move of the game so far on 19 minutes saw the home side take the lead - superb interplay between Smith, Watts, and Rhys Sarson put Smith through on goal and he made no mistake to put Slimbridge ahead.
As the Swans pressed, Watts was unlucky when his effort was blocked on the Tuffley goal line by Tawana Changa on 27 minutes as the home side applied the pressure.
The second goal when it came on 36 minutes was no surprise - Sam Blackie's long range effort brought a good save from Merchant, but he failed to hold onto the ball, and Watts gleefully rolled home the rebound to double the Slimbridge lead.
There was still time before the break for Blackie to hit the Tuffley post with a header on 43 minutes, but the half time whistle came with Slimbridge in control of the game.
There had obviously been words in the Tuffley Dressing Room at Half Time, as they came out for the second period a very different proposition - It took only nine minutes before they pulled a goal back following a period of sustained pressure, with Alder's shot deflected home via Tyrel Roberts to halve the deficit.
Tuffley upped their efforts again, and after Alder's Free Kick went just wide, the game was swinging from end to end.
On 67 minutes, a superb stop from Luke Merchant in the Tuffley goal denied Jonty Welch, while four minutes later, another great save from the Tuffley Keeper denied Toby Soule.
As Slimbridge started to regain the initiative, Liam Harper's header was just off target, but Tuffley were still very dangerous, and it took a superb stop from Olly Phillips to deny Chambers as the game entered the last ten minutes.
With seven minutes of stoppage time played by Referee Sam Myatt, it was a nervy end to the evening for the Swans, but they held on to take the three points.
The result sees the Swans extend their unbeaten League run stretch to four games, and sees them currently sitting in eighth spot in the Hellenic Premier League.
Slimbridge are back at Thornhill Park on Saturday when they entertain Royal Wootton Bassett Town (3.00pm), before they travel to Hartpury University a week tonight (October 8th, 7.45pm).

The Swans Under 18s side bowed out of the FA Youth Cup with a late 3-2 defeat at Cirencester Town. James Tainton's brace was not enough for the Swans who lost Goalkeeper Korsten Lewis to a first half injury, being replaced by 15 year old Alfie Davies in the Slimbridge goal.
