After a couple of disappointing losses, firstly to Wallingford in the FA Cup and then at home to SC Inkberrow in the Hellenic League, the news that Theo Clayson and Shiyak Sutherland were unavailable for last night's visit of Lydney Town was not what the Swans fans wanted to hear. However, Callum Dark, Liam Harper and Ben Deakin stepped up and Joint Manager Tom Deakin was delighted with their contributions in the 10-1 thrashing that ensued last night..
'Benj (Deakin), Cal (Dark) and Nugz (Harper) played their part in six of the goals - they have had to wait as Shiyak and Theo have both been superb, and we have to give them credit for their patience. It's been a waiting game. It didn't take long for both Benj and Callum to make their mark in each half - Cal scored in 90 seconds and then Benj did so 45 seconds into the second half. It shows the depth we have within the squad.'
Liam Harper came in for special praise - 'Liam showed a mature performance and was hard for them to deal with. He gave us a different angle to work with, and was involved in creating a lot of space for others to take opportunities as well as doing so for himself.'
'It's good to have a result that matches the performance - we've played well with the ball the last couple of games, but haven't defended well enough to get a result. We felt we put it all together today.
So we roll into the next game (Away at League Leaders Hereford Pegasus on Monday September 2nd (7.45pm)), and we need to take confidence from today and keep putting together full performances.'
