Pershore Town 2-3 Slimbridge
Saturday 7th February 2026
Slimbridge came away from Pershore this afternoon with a thoroughly deserved three points which saw them leapfrog Worcester Raiders into third place in the Hellenic League table.

Twice trailing, goals from Shiyak Sutherland, Jack W Smith and a 94th minute winner from Jack Smith saw the Swans home, after a thoroughly entertaining afternoon of football.

From the get go, Slimbridge seemed to have put the previous two league defeats behind them, as they settled well in very challenging conditions.

Joe Stokes made a very fast start and had the first effort on target three minutes into the game, seeing his effort saved by Pershore Keeper Joe Cunneen.

Five minutes later, Stokes' through ball was just too far ahead of Toby Soule as the visitors pressed, but on the quarter hour, they were undone by Pershore's first real attack of the game - a cross into the Slimbridge box saw Jamie Lucas rise highest to head home and put the hosts ahead.

Slimbridge continued to dominate the play - Stokes and Soule combined well to set Jack W Smith up, and he was just off target on 20 minutes, before Stokes brought another save from Cunneen with a long range effort.

With half an hour gone, Lucas saw his deflected effort, and Pershore's second chance, bring a superb stop from Swans' Keeper Steve Sarkodie.

Ten minutes before the half, Slimbridge got their reward when Soule's pinpoint pass played in Shiyak Sutherland, and he made no mistake when through one on one with the Keeper to level things up.

There was still time for another couple of efforts, but Soule saw his effort saved for the Swans and Tino Rhumba blasted his effort too high for the home side, leaving things level at the break.

Slimbridge almost made the perfect start to the second period, but a neat move that saw Sutherland and Soule play in Jack W Smith saw his effort ruled out for an offside decision.

Pershore then went straight down the other end, and Lucas converted a through ball from George Hunt to put the hosts back in front.

With an hour gone, Joe Stokes' free kick from outside the Pershore box cannoned back into play off the bar, and then, three minutes later, Sutherland's run and cross just eluded the Slimbridge runners as they pressed again for an equaliser.

Lucas could have completed his hat trick on 66 minutes, but his deflected effort brought another good save from Sarkodie to keep the Swans in the game.

As the game drifted into the last 15 minutes, Sutherland was again just wide, and Cunneen saved Ollie Barnes' header as Slimbridge continued to make the running.

Nine minutes from time, they were rewarded, when a neat move involving Stokes and Joey Shutt saw Shutt's cross converted by Jack W Smith to level things up.

As the game clicked into stoppage time, Shutt had a thunderous effort cleared off the Pershore line, as Slimbridge pressed for a win.

Four minutes into what was eventually nine minutes of stoppage time, most of it caused by a stray dog who made three excursions onto the playing field, Slimbridge nicked the points - Sutherland's run played in Shutt, and his cross was swept home by Jack Smith to send the visiting contingent into wild celebrations, and seal three invaluable points.

Slimbridge are due to host Worcester Raiders in what could be a critical game in terms of the season at Thornhill Park on Tuesday (7.45pm)

Following their 2-0 Severn Sport Cup win at Stourport Swifts on Friday night, with goals from Archie Carpenter and Theo Browne, the Under 18s will travel to either Gloucester City or Longlevens in the Semi Final, which will be played in the Week Commencing March 9th.
