Slimbridge 3-1 Corsham Town
Saturday 1st November 2025
Slimbridge progressed to the next round of the Marsh Challenge Cup with a comfortable victory over Corsham Town.

With the Swans dominating the majority of the play throughout, two goals in five first half minutes - the first from Jack Smith, the second an own goal, saw the Swans go in ahead at the break.

After Corsham pulled a goal back on the hour from their only decent chance of the game, it fell to Ibby Olateju to put the game to bed with twenty minutes remaining and see the hosts into the next round.

Slimbridge started brightly, and immediately started to create chances - in the first twenty minutes, Jack W Smith saw two efforts foiled by Corsham Keeper Ryan Clarke, while Slimbridge had a good penalty denied by Referee Ben Gudger when Jacob Rodgers was cleaned out just inside the Corsham box by Jaiden Pearce, with the official, who was behind the play, deciding the offence took place a yard outside the box.

On the half hour though, the deadlock was broken - Liban Ibrahim played a suicidal weak back pass towards Corsham Keeper Clarke, and Jack W Smith was alert, intercepted the pass and lobbed Clarke to put the Swans into the lead.

Five minutes later it was two - superb interplay between Alex Bell and Jack W Smith saw Smith's dangerous cross fizz across the Corsham box. Jack Hughes was on hand looking to tap it home, but Pearce did the job for him, sliding the ball in for an own goal before the ball could reach Hughes.

It took until the hour mark for Corsham to have their first real effort on goal, and it resulted in them reducing the deficit. Sloppy play from the Swans back four conceded a needless throw in, and the ball was crossed to Neilkell Plummer. As the Slimbridge defence all waited for an offside flag which never came, he turned and drilled the ball past Sarkodie to bring Corsham back into the game.

Slimbridge steadied themselves and continued to control the game - Bell brought a magnificent save from Clarke with a volley on 63 minutes, before another of the substitutions that are currently working so well put the game to bed.

Olateju replaced Hughes on 67 minutes, and with his first touch of the game, latched onto a through ball, rounded Clarke and slid the ball home for Slimbridge's third.

Aaron Evans-Harriot saw another great effort saved by Clarke, and the game ended on a torrential downpour, before the final whistle saw the Swans triumph.
