Match Report: Slimbridge 3-0 Lymington Town
Sunday 24th October 2021
The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides making mistakes in the middle and not gaining any control of the game.  From the kick off visitors Freddie Bullard got through on goal but over ran the ball allowing Lewis Adams to gather.  Almost immediately at the other end Toumani Sidibe had a shot saved by Ross Casey.

Adam Biss cleared a Ben Prictor cross from crossing the line under pressure from Sidibe and Jamie Martin as the Swans looked to make an early breakthrough.  Marley Thomas then fed Sidibie but his shot was blocked for a corner which was cleared by Casey.

A Lymington free kick on the edge of the box was headed wide by a Slimbridge defender, the resulting corner was cleared up field.  A mistake by Ben McLean in the middle allowed Ben Satterley to play Harry McGrath through on goal but hit his shot fell wide with just Adams to beat.

A series of free kicks and corners for the Swans saw Thomas find the car park from a 25 yard effort.  As the first half came to a close, McLean fired wide from long range.

The second half was a livelier affair, on 52 minutes Nathan Dennis picked up the ball inside the Swans box and ran down field playing in Sidibe who was brought down in the visitors box as he was about the take a shot.  The referee awarded a penalty and Sidibe’s low hard kick was saved well by visiting keeper Casey however the visitors failed to clear and allowed Mike Ford to slam the ball home to give the home side the lead.

Ten minutes later, Thomas cross from the left found Martin in space but Martins header just sailed over the bar.

Lymington took control of the game in determined mood to get back on level terms and enjoyed a long spell of pressure midway through the second half with the Swans defending their narrow lead.

Satterley’s long rang effort was easily dealt with by Adams, Toby Bailey then fired over from a free kick followed shortly after another free kick for the visitors this time Craig Stanley goal bound header was captured by Adams.

With 15 minutes to go the home side managed to get the ball forward to Johan Flo who found Ford in space but a superb tackle from Casey thwarted the Swans chance.

Lymington still pushing for an equaliser saw Korey Pring in great form in the heart of defence clear off the line with 10 minutes remaining.

With only 5 minutes left, Prictor and Martin linked up on the left with Martin’s cross field ball finding Thomas in space on the right allowing the forward to control the ball and fire past Casey into the far corner of the net.

The visitors didn’t give up, Pring clearing a dangerous cross sent into the box and then Prictor heading behind another effort from long range.

In the final moments of the game, a Slimbridge corner was kept close to the flag before McLean played it out to Thomas whose chip in the middle fell nicely to Flo to volley past Casey and seal the game.

This week the Swans first team travel to Winchester City on Saturday, while at home the under U18s face Lydney U18s on Tuesday evening at 7:30pm while the reserves host Newent Town reserves on Saturday.
