Match Report: Larkhall 3-1 Slimbridge
Tuesday 12th October 2021
In a mirror image to the league fixture back in August the Swans concede two quick goals after taking a first half lead before a third in the second half gave the Larks a place in the next round of the FA Trophy.

Larkhall started well a free kick on the edge of the box sailed through the wall and Lewis Adams did well to palm the wall away for a corner.  Nathan Dennis did well to clear at the far post after the ball rattled around the box.

A Korey Pring deep cross found the head of Mike Ford but his header fell inches wide.  A Slimbridge free kick on 9 minutes saw Marley Thomas float the ball into the box where Dennis was well placed to head the Swans in front.

The game continued to ebb and flow, Jamie Martin having a long range shot saved while Mike Baker had a shot at the other end saved by Adams.  Then Sam Crumb struck the bar from long range as the pressure started to mount on the visitors.

A lengthy injury delay to Alfie Clarke on 30 minutes when Martin and Clarke clashed feet in a 50-50 challenge seemed to unsettle the Swans as 5 minutes later they conceded a soft equaliser.  A 40 yard free kick found Lewis Powell in space at the far post to head home unopposed.

Six minutes after scoring their first, the home side got a second Alex Lamberts cross from the right was headed in by Crumb.

Slimbridge found the second half as tough as the first although on the hour Martin headed wide Dennis’s knock down from a free kick.  Powell hit the bar from 35 yards two minutes later.

The Larks third goal arrived on 76 minutes, Powell barging Ben Hands out of the way as he ran through on goal and slotting the ball past Adams.

With 10 minutes remaining Powell tried his luck from just inside the Slimbridge half with Adams off his line, fortunately for the Swans the ball came off the post and away to safety.

Deep into injury time, Clarke was given a second yellow card followed by the red card for needlessly kicking the ball away deep in the Swans half.

Next weekend the first team travel to Cirencester in the league, while the reserves face Cheltenham Civil Service in the senior north county cup.
