Slimbridge kept up the pressure at the top of the Hellenic Premier League this afternoon with a barnstorming win over Cinderford Town at the Causeway.
Two goals in each half saw the Swans pick up another priceless three points, and saw them close the gap on League Leaders Roman Glass St. George to two points, with Slimbridge now having a massive five games in hand on the League leaders.
It was the perfect way to take the season into Christmas, and massive respect is due to the players and the Management team for the club's position just over halfway through the season, with an exciting FA Vase game still to come in January, when the Swans travel to Downton FC in the Fourth Round of the competition for a place in the last 16 of the competition.
Slimbridge started the game on the front foot and never let up - with just three minutes on the clock, Jack W Smith saw a great opportunity foiled by Ex-Swans Keeper Lewis Adams, but a superb move on 15 minutes saw the deadlock broken.
Tris Haswell and Jack Smith worked the ball well down the Slimbridge left flank, and Smith's cross reached Jack W Smith, who drilled the ball past Adams to put the visitors ahead.
Joey Shutt's effort was just over the bar on 20 minutes after a corner was played out to him, but four minutes later, his next effort, with a slight deflection, beat Adams all ends up and put the Swans in control of the game.
After Jack W Smith had another effort wide, Alex Bell and Aaron Evans-Harriot were both unlucky to have efforts blocked, before Bell's volley just before the break saw Adams collect the ball as it threatened to cross the goaline.
It was not until the 43rd minute that Cinderford had their first effort on goal, but Kian Davies was off target, leaving the Swans two goals to the good at the break.
The second period served up more of the same - Bell was just wide with an effort on 49 minutes, before Slimbridge notched their next goal on 53 minutes. Jack W Smith made a break down the Slimbridge right and his drilled cross found Evans-Harriot in the penalty box. He turned his man, and smashed the ball past Adams for Slimbridge's third.
A foul on Bell saw a Slimbridge free kick on the edge of the Cinderford box on 56 minutes, but Jack W Smith was way off target with his effort.
However, on the hour, it was four. Evans-Harriot's corner was flicked on at the near post by the head of Charlie Hitchings, and Bogdan Mara was on hand at the far post to bundle the ball home for Slimbridge's fourth goal.
The game developed into a stalemate for the final period, but Cinderford pulled a goal back five minutes from time, when Jaxson Hundt converted a cross to deny Steve Sarkodie a clean sheet, but the game was well finished by that point.
The Swans are next in League action next Saturday, when they entertain Lydney Town at Thornhill Park (27th December, 3.00pm)
