Rudi McKinnon opened the scoring on the night just 12 minutes into the game as James Sunley’s corner was headed across goal by Jacob Geddes and into the path of McKinnon who calmly passed the ball into the bottom right corner.
This lead didn’t last long as Finley Bell charged down the left and dug a brilliant cross into Michael Symons who headed past Lewis Adams in goal to put the Foresters level at the break.
It was the away side who came out for the second half flying as they won a penalty just minutes after the restart. Harry Emmett dispatching it well into the bottom right corner.
The game progressed with both sides finding it difficult to have sustained possession of the ball but as the hour mark passed the Swans found an equaliser.
A ball out of the defence from Geddes is headed into the path of Dunbar, the forward turns to play a ball over the Cinderford defence and find Will Hawes who brings it down superbly and finishes the play off with an instinctive strike past Ellis Parker.
Corners proved a difficulty to defend on the night as Felix Miles saw his header hit the cross bar. As the ball then dropped Levi Francis had to be alert on the goal line to block what looked a certain third for the away side.
With 15 minutes to go, it was the Foresters who re-took the lead with another corner causing problems. Jack Bartman unmanned at the back post able to head in the winner.
After the match assistant manager Tom Deakin said it was a ‘frustrating’ game.
“First half we played well, scored a good goal from a corner. And then gave away a soft goal. Thirty-seconds after half time we give away a penalty and then we do the hard bit and get back in it. But then we do it again. We are our downfall and we’ve done ourselves in, it’s frustrating.”
Deakin also said that mistakes at this level will get punished, something the Swans found out on the night.
“It’s hard to take but it’s what it is at this level. We’ve made a mistake and we’ve been punished for it and learnt the hard way.
“We’ve still got nine games to go and play with our heads up. At the same time, we still have nothing to lose. We have 10 days off until we play Totton, so that’s what we’ve got to look towards now and that’s what our heads have got to be focused on.”
The game against promotion chasing Totton comes next for the Swans. Join us at Thornhill Park for that one on the 18th of March, 3pm kick-off.
