Slimbridge 0-4 Exmouth Town
Monday 3rd October 2022
An early goal followed up by a quick fire double from substitute Josh Bissett gave the visitors all three points with a well organised performance shutting out a lackluster Swans front line that struggled to make any inroads into the visitor’s box.

The Swans started on the front foot with Dylan Lewis latching onto Ben Prictor’s cross but his shot was blocked for a corner which was cleared by the visiting defense.  However it was the visitors that took an early lead, an Exmouth throw into the box found Levi Landricombe who had got in front of his marker to fire home from close range.

Exmouth controlled much of the first half possession with Slimbridge struggling to find a front man when they did get forward.  Ben Steer forced a good save from Lewis Adams in the home goal just before the half hour mark then the experienced Landricombe rattled the Swans bar from distance as the home side failed to close him down.

In the last five minutes of the first half the home side managed to get a good passing spell together and created a couple of half chances from distance with James Sunley firing narrowly wide and then Joe Shutt having a shot blocked at the near post.

Slimbridge started the second half like the end of the first with a spell of possession Lewis having a shot blocked from a corner and then Edji Mbunga put a dangerous cross into the box that was initially spilled by keeper Robert Powell.  The home side lost Shutt to injury and his replacement Harvey Skurek made an impact getting forward but with no one being able to get on the end of his cross which was claimed by Powell.

With little over 20 minutes remaining the visitors scored two quick goals to leave the home side deflated.  A long ball forward found substitute Josh Bissett in space down the left he turned defender Jacob Geddes and fired past Adams into the bottom right corner.  A similar move three minutes later saw Bissett cut in from the left and fire his shot into the bottom left corner despite Adams getting a hand to it on the way into the net.

Exmouth increased their lead in the final minutes, Adams failed to hold on to a long throw into the box and it was Jordan Harris that reacted quickest to tap the ball into the net past two home defenders on the line.

Next up for the Swans is a short trip to neighbor’s Yate Town on Tuesday evening in the GFA Senior Trophy followed by a return to league action next Saturday at Paulton Rovers.
