First Open Trial Session for Slimbridge U18s Floodlit Team Friday 7th of May, 6.30 - 8.30pm

The Purpose of SAFC Development is to develop and transition talented young footballers from Youth to Adult football from local and surrounding communities. 

Our Aim is to feed the Slimbridge First Team who play semi-professional football in the Southern Division One South League, which is the 8th Tier of professional English football.

Although the 2020-2021 season was largely expunged, the season will be fondly remembered as very being incredibly successful due to; the First Team finishing in its highest league position ever (5th in the Southern League South Division One), the Reserves being top of Hellenic Division 2 and U18s enjoying the physical challenge of the Bristol U18s Combination League.

Given our success over the past three seasons and to enhance player development our Reserves have applied for promotion to Hellenic Division 1. The Team will be largely based on young adults, mainly from our over aged U18s squad with the aim to provide the next generation of First Team players. Adam Coyle is again in charge of the Reserves, with games at Thornhill Park Stadium on Saturday afternoons.

The plan is to continue to feed the Reserves with players from a midweek Floodlit U18s Team, who will play in a local competition. This will enable the development of talented U16-U18 local players, providing a platform to showcase their ability. The U18s will also compete in the FA Youth Cup & U18 GFA Shield. Martin Worsfold is again in charge of the U18s, with games being played at the Thornhill Park Stadium. 

Plans are also well advanced to provide an additional pathway for young players that need quality adult Saturday football to be able to make the step into the Reserves. Its exciting times at Slimbridge as we prepare for the new season!
