Defeat on the road in Hampshire for the Swans against a strong well organized AFC Totton side that included two ex-professional players leading the front line.
Two goals five minutes apart in the first half and a second half penalty was enough for the home side to take the points.
Totton started the game with pace and pushed forward with every opportunity trying to exploit the young Swans defense. Ethan Taylor striking a post early on then a long ball forward found Brett Williams but his effort went over the bar.
The home side took the lead on 15 minutes, a free kick on the right 40 yards out found Scott Rendell in space to head home past Lewis Adams. Five minutes later Williams nipped in to guide a long ball past Adams into the corner of the net to leave the visitors stunned.
Ethan Dunbar managed to get a shot away at the other end but it fell just wide of the post, one of few chances afforded to the Swans. Just before the half hour mark Williams clipped the bar from a free kick as the Slimbridge rear guard defended their goal for much of the half.
Adams did well to stop a through ball to Williams before the Swans had a late attacking burst at the end of the half. Marley Thomas put Edji Mbunga through on goal but the home keeper Lewis Noice managed to collect the ball before the Swans striker could reach it. Thomas then forced a save from Noice as the half time whistle approached.
The second half saw Slimbridge get more possession of the ball but they found it difficult to break down a well organized home side who had taken off scorer Williams and play maker Jack Masterton at the break.
A Swans free kick midway through the seond hald saw Mbunga fire over the bar. The home side increased their goal tally with just over 10 minutes remaining when Adams pushed Jake Adams to the floor conceding a penalty which was dispatched by Rendell.
In the last few minutes of the game the Swans were lucky not to concede again with Taylor striking the post and Rendell hitting the bar from the rebound.
On Saturday the Swans face Tavistock in another tough Southern League Division One South encounter at Thornhill Park at 3:00pm.
